Meet The Team

 

The Shivwits Band Emergency Management Team will coordinate with local and county, State, Federal, volunteer, and non-profit organizations as well as with specialized teams, and the private sectors and other agencies, including our own Tribal Emergency Response Team in the management of an emergency or disaster, to save the lives of its Tribal members, pets and animals, and to protect property and to preserve our environment.

Norine Castro

Director/Manager

 

Norine Castro is a member of the Shivwits Band of the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah. She has held the position for Shivwits Band’s Emergency Manager since 2013 to current. Her goals as Manager is to learn all she can to help her tribal members & neighboring communities if & when a disaster happens. She is grateful for the special training and life skills she has learned over the years as it helps her to continue as a volunteer on all the FEMA, State, local & CERT trainings.

Other Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities:

Shivwits Band Secretary which is an elected position since August 2011-2019.

Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah’s (P.I.T.U.) Vice Chair for Tribal Emergency Response Team (T.E.R.T.)

Active member of (UTERC) Utah Tribal Emergency Resource Committee, Washington County LEPC, & Citizen Corp.

Shivwits Band’s Health Representative August 2011-2016 & started again January 2019.

Land Resources Committee member for the Shivwits Band.

2013 to 2017: Tribal Liaison between Red Cross & Paiute Indian Tribe to improve on all our disaster skills.

Travis joined the team in 2017 and is from the Shivwits Band. He enjoys being on the team and attending the different training. He is also on several other committees including Housing, working with the youth and land Resources.

Shanandoah Anderson

Team Member

​

Shanan joined the team in 2014 and is from the Shivwits Band. She enjoys being on the team and attending the different training's to help her community in the event of an emergency.

 

Shanan hard working, dedicated and reliable leader & team player, she takes great pride in her work. Growing up she learned everything from survival skills, native foods, plants, crafts, hide tanning, weapons, games, beadwork, quillwork, sign language and listening to the elders on Paiute history, culture and beliefs.

She is easily trainable and welcomes the opportunity to learn new skills where she may be lacking and welcomes any challenge she comes across.
